Taoist Monk, Hua Shan

photo only

Hua Shan (the name means 'Flowery Mountain' because its five peaks supposedly resemble the petals of a flower) is the westernmost of the five moutains that are sacred in Taoist mythology. Although only a few of the hundreds of temples that used to cover its peaks remain, and it now sees more Chinese tourists than genuine pilgrims, the monks are friendly and the views spectacular.
